Selectivity in organocatalysis—From qualitative to quantitative predictive models

نویسندگان

چکیده

Recent advances in both experimental and computational techniques pose an exciting time for chemistry. Computational tools traditionally used to interpret trends have now evolved into predictive models able guide the design of novel catalysts. This review discusses evolution these models, as well challenges future avenues field organocatalysis. Through representative examples we demonstrate how traditional physical organic chemistry combination with machine learning provide a powerful approach achieve deeper understanding alongside greater power. article is categorized under: Structure Mechanism > Reaction Mechanisms Catalysis Electronic Theory Density Functional Data Science Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning

Learning Predictive Qualitative Models with Padé

Qualitative models are similar to regression models, except that instead of numerical predictions they provide insight into how a change of a certain input variable affects the output within a context of other inputs. Although people usually reason qualitatively, machine learning has mostly ignored this type of model. We present a new approach to learning qualitative models from numerical data....

Qualitative and Quantitative Models of Speech Translation

This paper compares a qualitative reasoning model of translation with a quantitative statistical model. We consider these models within the context of two hypothetical speech translation systems, starting with a logic-based design and pointing out which of its characteristics are best preserved or eliminated in moving to the second, quantitative design. The quantitative language and translation...

From Quantitative to Qualitative Spaces

Based on previous work, we present our position statement encompassing two mutually complementary topics. The first topic pertains to the ontological grounding of quantitatively specified synthetic environment data. Here, the objective is to generate a qualitative spatial description of a quantitatively modelled (e.g., using primitive geometric features) synthetic environment. The basic aim her...

When Good Models Meet Bad Data: Applying Quantitative Economic Models to Qualitative Engineering Judgments

We have been attempting to apply financial portfolio analysis techniques to the task of selecting an application-appropriate suite of security technologies from the technologies available in the marketplace. The problem structures are sufficiently similar that the intuitive guidance is encouraging. However, the analysis techniques of portfolio analysis assume precise quantitative data of a sort...

Reviewing the results of qualitative and quantitative analysis of MCQs in Introduction to clinical medicine course

Background: At most of the medical universities, MCQ-based examinations are often use as the first component, particularly to ensure the candidates have an adequate knowledge base, prior to entering subsequent clinical examinations. Method: In ICM , 3973 MCQs were collected from tests over a four-year period from 2005 to2009. Questions were evaluated for 10 frequently occurring item writing f...
